Aliya is a practitioner and instructor of traditional Ashtanga Yoga as taught at the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI) in Mysore, India. Aliya is Authorized Level 2 and the only teacher on the island of Oahu to receive this blessing. He regularly returns to India to study with R. Sharath Jois and Saraswati, where he also studies Sanskrit and chanting. During his most recent trip he participated in yoga asana demonstrations led by Sharath at the Yoga Dasara Festival and JSS Hospital in Mysore. Aliya is dedicated to the parampara of Ashtanga Yoga as it has been handed down from Pattabhi Jois and strives to teach the method as it is taught at KPJAYI. He feels blessed to be able to share the practice with others.
